The Payroll Specialist position is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for the company’s multi-state workforce. The Payroll Specialist is also responsible to ensure compliance with payroll controls and suggest process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurately processing payroll for the company’s multi-state employee population and serving as back-up for other payroll personnel in executing their duties.
  • Accurately prepare, enter, audit and distribute the payroll on a timely basis.
  • Maintain payroll operations by reviewing changes for proper authorization and adherence to company policies including compliance with federal/state/local regulations.
  • Assist with setting standards and establishing best procedures.
  • Provide superior customer service as one of the primary contacts for benefit and payroll questions/requests.
  • Apply proper taxation to payments and benefits.
  • Process changes in the payroll system through set-up of new hires and a variety of employee changes - terminations, garnishments, taxes/reconciliation, pay cards, pertinent billing and other related payroll duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of company’s HR/payroll/benefit policies and practices and communicate them effectively to employees and managers.
  • Responds to internal customer requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Seek opportunities to streamline/improve payroll policies, processes and procedures for maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness for both customers and payroll department.
  • Reconcile payroll results and perform audit checks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required; Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of payroll experience
  • Knowledge of the end-to-end payroll cycle
  • Ability to apply initiative and independent judgment to resolve problems
  • Experience with an automated payroll software – UltiPro and Kronos preferred
  • Experience with Excel and Word
  • Understands and follows applicable labor and employment law/regulations
  • Hands-on experience with the various payroll inputs and outputs such as third party interfaces, timekeeping, tax filing/compliance, accounting, benefits, and other key areas that integrate with payroll
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to foster strong relationships at all levels
  • High degree of professionalism, strong work ethics and a team player
  • Ability to deal sensitively with highly confidential data/materials.
  • Ability to manage many tasks with strong organizational skills and work well under strict deadlines
